The best sites demonstrate a clear duty to the truth. For example, the NYTimes:

• They have an integrity policy, which they post publicly, discuss openly and modify openly
• They issue Corrections, sometimes 50 years after the printed error
• They cite sources, usually by linking to them, or by citing specific people by name
• When you check on those sources, they agree with what the article said
• They also tend to agree with the total characterization
